The Vision Initiative website has been developed in accordance with best practice and to meet internationally recognised accessibility standards, namely the "AAA" WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Group) rating as defined by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), the international web standards body.

A number of features to better facilitate use and control of the website are detailed below.

Javascript

This site works best with Javascript enabled in your browser. Javascript is used for accessibility controls and text size switching throughout the site.

Text size

The site uses text size controls to provide easier readability.

  • To increase text size, click on the A+ icon in the upper right menu until the desired size is achieved
  • To decrease text size, click on the A- icon in the top upper right menu until the desired size is achieved

Text only version

For maximum accessibility, a text only version of the site has been provided. This version has no images, is high contrast, loads more quickly, and is optimized for screen readers.

  • To switch to the text only version, click on "text version" in the upper right menu.
  • To switch back to the default site, click "default site" in the upper right menu.

Skip to content

To enable better usability for screen readers, a "skip to content" control is located on every page of the main site.

Access keys

Access keys are keyboard shortcuts intended to help users who have difficulties with pointing devices, such as a mouse. By using access keys you can jump to specific areas of a website.

Within this site we have provided a skip to content, skip to navigation and skip to accessibility controls accesskey.

How to use access keys

Different browsers require slightly different key combinations to use an access key:

Internet Explorer 5+ (PC)
Hold down the ALT key, press the number of the access key, release both keys then press ENTER.

FireFox 1.0.4+ (PC)
Hold down the SHIFT and ALT key and press the number of the access key.

FireFox 1.0.4+ (Mac)
Hold down the CONTROL key and press the number of the access key.

Opera 8.0+ (PC & Mac)
Press Shift, Escape and then the number of the access key.

Access keys are supported by the following web browsers:

Contrast
