Pharmacists are often the first health professional people turn to with a health query. Pharmacists can give health advice to the local community. A trusted local pharmacist provides a friendly, non-judgemental ear and plays a key role as an intermediary between doctor and patient.
Since 2004 the Vision Initiative has worked in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) Victorian branch to provide the most up to date information on eye health and vision care to Victorian pharmacists.
A series of presentations have been presented to pharmacists by local ophthalmologists and optometrists over the years as part of the PSA Victorian branch Continued Professional Development program. These presentations are available to download below.
In addition, PSA runs the Pharmacy Self Care Health Information program nationally which provides information sheets for distribution to pharmacy clients. As part of this program the Vision Initiative in collaboration with Vision 2020 Australia members have developed the information card titled 'Vision impairment' (available below).
