Applications open for the Vision Initiative small grants scheme

« Back to News

Applications are now open for the Vision Initiative Small Grants Scheme, which aims to support groups or organisations from target agencies to organise a project that raises awareness of the importance of regular eye tests within their community.

Grants of $500 are designed to help community members get a project started or can be used to complement existing projects.

We are encouraging health agencies to include eye health and vision care in their health plans. Seventy five per cent of vision loss is preventable or treatable if detected early, so preventative activity in the form of a regular eye examination is critical.

Grant money can be used for a variety of things including (but not limited to):

  • catering
  • venue/equipment hire
  • publicity
  • childcare
  • transport to venue
  • interpreter
  • entertainment or speakers.

Who can apply?

Organisations within Neighbourhood Renewal sites are eligible to apply.

What are the conditions of funding?

Eye health and vision care projects must address the following key criteria to be eligible for a grant:

  • Raise the community's awareness of the importance of regular eye tests.
  • Increase the community’s understanding of low vision and the services available.
  • Encourage and assist people to access eye health and vision care services.
  • Raise community awareness of vision care and eye health services available locally.

All participating groups will be required to complete an application form (attached below). If you need assistance to complete the form contact Robyn Wallace on or 03 9656 2026.

At the end of each program, a brief evaluation will be required.
