Aboriginal Eye Health Subcommittee meets

The first meeting of the Aboriginal Eye Health Subcommittee under the auspice of the Victorian Advisory Council on Koori Health was held on Monday 31 May 2010 at the Department of Health, Melbourne.

The Terms of Reference for the Subcommittee was discussed and membership confirmed.

Membership includes:

• Aboriginal community/consumer representative
• Australian College of Optometry
• Centre for Eye Research Australia
• Department of Health
• Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital
• The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists
• University of Melbourne – Indigenous Eye Health Unit
• Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation
• Victorian Aboriginal Health Service
• Vision 2020 Australia – Vision Initiative

An overview of the project consultation to date was presented followed by a discussion around potential models for addressing gaps in Indigenous eye health.

The next meeting will be in late July 2010.
