On 28 September, the Vision Initiative held a pilot education session for care managers at the Northern Area offices of Southern Cross Care Victoria.
Southern Cross Care Victoria is a reputable community-based organisation that provides quality care to more than 5,300 seniors in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Twenty five care managers attended the session, including three who provide care to Greek and Italian clients in community based settings. Each care manager is responsible for 25 clients, providing the potential impact of the education to be extended to 625 ‘at risk’ clients within the home and community care services system.
The participants were very receptive to the information provided and post session evaluation indicated an increased knowledge and understanding of eye conditions and the services that are available. Further sessions are being considered for other staff from Southern Cross Care.
