Annual Victorian Winter Weekend
20-21 August 2011
As part of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s continuing education initiatives, a primary health care winter weekend was held on August 20-21 at the Crown Plaza, Torquay.
The Vision Initiative were invited to present at the winter weekend and partnered with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Opthalmologists. The Vision Initiative also sponsored an information stand providing information sheets to pharmacists and distributing resources to support the presentation.
Nicholas Brislane, one of the the Vision Initiative’s professional education liaison officers, developed a presentation with Dr Bruce Munro, an ophthalmologist from Geelong.
The presentation was titled ‘The Big Five Eye Conditions in Australia’ and explained the risk factors for developing these conditions and preventative measures for vision loss.
The winter weekend was attended by more than 70 pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.
Robyn Wallace, the Vision Initiative Coordinator who attended the conference said, “Pharmacists and pharmacy assistants provide frontline care to Victorians seeking information and advice about their eyes. The presentation and accompanying resources provided them with the tools for appropriate key eye health messages for the public”.
