Eye Health Subcommittee - Victorian Advisory Council for Koorie Health (VACKH)

The Vision Initiative attended the recent VACKH meeting where the Australian College of Optometry reported on the status of the role out of the new subsidised spectacle scheme in Victoria.

Vision Initiative Program Evaluation 2008-2011

An external program evaluator has been engaged to report on the achievements of the Vision Initiative over the past three years.

Learning Seat - online learning for health professionals

In 2009 Learning Seat, an online education developer, partnered with the Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA) and the Vision Initiative to develop and implement the accredited module for practice nurses titled ‘An Introduction to eyes’. The module was reviewed and updated in late 2010 to incorporate recent information on eye health and vision care in Australia.

Inclusion of eye health and vision care information in the Well for Life program

Well for Life is a package funded by the Victorian Department of Health aimed to improve the health, independence and well being of residents living in aged care facilities. The Vision Initiative has partnered with the Aged Care Branch to review the Well for Life resources and ensure eye health and vision care is included in the appropriate sections.

Neighborhood Renewal – Atherton Gardens

In early 2010, eye health and vision care information was included on the Wired @ Collingwood community site. More recently the Vision Initiative has provided information for inclusion on the Health and Wellbeing tab of the Wired @ Atherton Gardens community site.

Vision Initiative funding commitment

Labor and Coalition commit to ongoing funding for the Vision Initiative program.

Agricultural Health and Medicine Scholarships, 28 February – 4 March 2011

The National Centre for Farmer Health will provide five scholarships to financially assist students who would like to undertake further study in Agricultural Health and Medicine.    

Vision Initiative meets with Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS)

In November 2010, the Vision Initiative joined the monthly meeting of Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) Managers to provide an overview of the program and current projects focused on Aboriginal eye health and vision care.

Diabetes Australia Victoria Community Network Conference

Diabetes Australia Victoria hosted the Community Network Conference annual ComNet Conference on 20 October, focusing on the development and management of a successful community network group.
