Pharmaceutical Society of Australia

Often a first port of call for people with a health query, the pharmacist plays a key role in providing health advice to the local community. A trusted local pharmacist provides a friendly, non judgemental ear and plays a key role as intermediary between doctor and patient. This makes it essential that pharmacists are knowledgeable across a broad range of health issues.

Since 2004 the Vision Initiative has worked in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) to provide the most up to date information on eye health and vision care to Victorian pharmacists.

Each year a series of eye health education topics are developed, accredited and presented by local ophthalmologists and optometrists as part of the PSA Continued Professional Development (CPD) program. Pharmacists receive CPD points at the completion of the education session with the added benefit of forming a relationship with their local eye health practitioner.

Nationally the PSA runs the Pharmacy Self Care Health Information Program which provides information sheets for distribution to pharmacy clients. As part of this program the Vision Initiative in collaboration with Vision 2020 Australia members have developed an information sheet titled Vision Impairment (available below).

You can also download past presentations developed for PSA CPD sessions on the following topics below. If you would like to receive these presentations in an alternative format, please send a request using our website enquiry form.
