Vision Initiative

Quit and Vision Initiative have launched tailored training and resources for eye health professionals, including optometrists and orthoptists, that aim to reduce and prevent smoking-related diseases, including eye disease, among patients.
A survey conducted by Quit and Vision Initiative shows that most eye health professionals are not aware that most people who smoke would like to be offered help to quit, and most don’t feel confident in providing smoking cessation support.
Quit’s new training and resources give eye health professionals the knowledge and skills to link patients who smoke with best practice tobacco dependence treatment – a combination of pharmacotherapy and behavioural intervention through Quitline.
The online training is accredited 1 CPD point and takes around 1 hour to complete. The training is free for Victorian and SA optometrists and Victorian orthoptists. A $20 fee applies to other states.
