Today is World Orthoptic Day
This year's theme, Orthoptics Together, focuses on what unites orthoptists with other eye care professions, and is an opportunity to heighten the visibility of the orthoptic profession.
Orthoptics Australia is the member organisation of orthoptists in Australia providing a range of member services including an annual conference, numerous events for professional development and provides advocacy for the profession with governments and other agencies. Orthoptics Australia celebrates 75 years as a member association this year. Marion Rivers, President of Orthoptics Australia said, “following the last census in 2016, 814 people identified as orthoptists, an increase of 19% on the 2011 census”. Orthoptics Australia is aware of the need to encourage orthoptists into remote and regional areas with nearly 80% of orthoptists currently employed in Sydney and Melbourne.
